Summer Term 2025-26

Welcome to our Summer term in Early Years!

Our first week back was a busy one, we took part in the London Mini Marathon for schools and all the children ran a total distance of 2 miles, we completed it by doing laps of our running track each day. Well done everyone!

We held our open afternoon where families and visitors could join us and what a fabulous afternoon we had! The children love sharing their learning with their families. We had the opportunity to make bird feeders, plant a sunflower seed and sort the recycling as well as play with our friends and show all the grown ups what we can do - children were digging in the construction area, getting the ducks to travel down the water pipes and having endless fun in the sun!

We were so excited for our first Wheelie Wednesday session, we showed all the children the new bikes and the new helmets, we then talked about bike safety and why we need to listen to the instructions of how to use the brake and check your tyres and height of the seat and then how to tighten the helmet and to make sure it fits well. We did riding with small steps taking turns and gliding today. This is going to be a weekly session within our timetable and the children thoroughly enjoyed this!

We are taking the children to the Bailiffgate Museum in Alnwick to deepen our learning in history and as an added expereince we are using the service bus to get there. Please see the letter below with all the information.

Sports day was a little wet but despite the weather all the children tried their very best and had such fun too - which is most important. Well done everyone!

As a treat from the PTA, Gladiator Steel came to visit, also known as Zactiv. He spoke to us about keeping healthy, mental health and well being and told us his story about how he aspired to be a gladiator and through determination, he succeeded to achieve his dream. He asked us what our aspirations were and it was wondeful to hear the children all say different things such as a doctor, a vet, a scientist, a professional drummer, a presenter, an animal enthuisast and of course a gladiator! What an ispiration! Question time then followed in each of the classrooms. The children in Early Years had some lovely questions such as - who is your favourite Gladiator? How did you get on TV? How did you become a Gladiator? Howe much can you lift? He can lift three washing machines!

To celebrate the beginning of the World Cup for England, everyone was welcomed to come into school dressed sporty or in the colours of a flag of a country particpating in the World Cup. The older children organised and ran football events for the rest of the school - such as; penalty shoot out and games that worked on dribbling techniques and skills. For our morning wake up shake up we even did a football let's dance! We had a lovely day!

Wow, what a lovely afternoon we had treating our daddies and grandads for Father’s Day. Thank you so much for making the effort and taking the time to join us, we know it’s not always easy! We welcomed our grown ups and showed them to their seats, we then decorated our own coasters for them, enjoyed a home made sausage roll kindly made by Mrs Wardropper, sang our Father’s Day song and gave our grown up a balloon to go home with. Fantastic.

Thank you Rev'd Rich Townend for his welcoming and informative visit for the reception class children on Friday. The children even had a special treat ringing the bells! We are so lucky to have such wonderful links between our church and school community!

This morning we were joined by Rock Steady and we listened and learned about the instruments - electric guitar, keyboard, electric drum, base guitar.

We even got some of the teachers up to perform and we made our own band - Rocking navy bue giraffes who performed at the end!

What a super morning!

Early Years had a wonderful trip to Bailiffgate museum in Alnwick. We walked down to the bus stop in Whittingham and boarded the bus, the bus driver was really kind and we each purchased our own ticket. When we arrived in Alnwick we walked down to the Bailiffgate Museum and were warmly greeted by the staff.  We went around the main museum before lunch, enjoyed our picnic lunch and then this afternoon we looked at artefacts from their current exhibition of the 1950's and 1960's. We found all 25 mice in the museum and then had the opportunity to make a peg aeroplane and peg doll.
